UPCOMING SAILING EVENTS:

Autumn Twilight Series, Race 4 of 10

Wednesday twilight race seems to mean light breeze and a good number of sailors out on the water. Another race mixed with those willing to stick it out and finish the race while a few others decided to enjoy the evening out on the deck.

Autumn RTC Series, Race 3 of 3

Now that we have the new mark in Fish Hoek, racing was been slightly different. However true to Autumn the weather is absolutely perfect for a non- sailor. Warm days and light breeze on race days seem to be something of the norm lately. However the race was sailed with 9 boats out on the line, a few retired but it was a great days racing had by most .

ANGLING

Dave & Vicki Staniforth - Update

Spring has reached the UK and a late Easter will provide an ideal opportunity for getting out on the water. During the winter we acquired another Drascombe. Dabber Bob'n'Annie gave us 5 great years but, with the eldest of 3 grandsons now a teenager, we needed something bigger. Longboat Cruiser Kestrel is just like my South African Longboat Pellicano except for having a small 2 berth cabin - ideal for visiting the estuary's, bays and small harbours of the UK coastline. This year we will be based on the North Wales coast in Cardigan Bay and have plans to visit Scotland and Ireland in the coming years.

The dark winter nights gave time for reading secondhand boating books that I have been collecting over the past few years. One of the most interesting was Around Africa by Peter Marshall. It gave the added pleasure of recounting his visit to FBYC in the early Nineties and a day sailing trip to Cape Point. (Link to attachment). Long may FBYC maintain it's reputation as a welcoming place for visitors.

Our travels later in 2019 take us Down Under to Australia and New Zealand. Hoping to get back to Cape Town in early 2020 for another extended stay.

Kind Regards
Dave & Vicki Staniforth
