Dolphyn Diary #270: 06 August 2018

THE FUTURE OF COASTAL CLUBS

Dear Member,

THE FUTURE OF COASTAL CLUBS

Further to various announcements on the collaborative exercise between all the Coastal Clubs of South Africa, facilitated by South African Sailing, it gives me pleasure to forward the attached questionnaire to all Club members.

The questionnaire has been developed around surveys used for Clubs here in South Africa, including work done at Royal Cape Yacht Club and Royal Natal Yacht Club, and exercises undertaken for similar purposes at overseas Clubs such as Royal Cork and other sporting bodies.

Please click on to the survey here: https://goo.gl/forms/UYl9PMQVrdFiylYR2

It takes some 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Not much to ask a member for the future of their Club. I have already submitted mine. Please note if your session is interrupted, as long as the window is not closed, one can return to complete it later. After you have submitted your response, you will receive a mail in your inbox confirming it has been logged. Once submitted it is possible to go back into your response and change an answer if required.

In addition, the Club, together with other Coastal Clubs, is completing a detailed spreadsheet accounting for the Club’s activities in the form of a Scorecard.

The surveys will be collated by SA Sailing. Please be assured this will be done on an unattributed basis. Someone may contact you to clarify a response but the information will be aggregated on a per Club basis and as a collective for all of the coastal clubs.

Thank you for your support and involvement.

Let’s hope we can look back on this in time and be able to say this was the turning point.

With warm regards,

Anthony Wentworth
Commodore

ANGLING

Hi All

Following the recent WPDSAA AGM, I have been appointed as the incoming offshore tournaments officer for 2018/2019.

Part of my duties involves the boat arrangements for the WPDSAA "Own Choice" Tuna Inter provincial tournament which takes place out of CBSC in October.

Registration and Opening function - Monday 15 October 2018
Closing function / Prizegiving - Saturday 20 October 2018
Fishing days - Tuesday 16th through Saturday 20th (Note - max 4 days to be fished for the club comp and 3 days for Inter provincial)

I am looking for boats and skippers for the inter provincial teams for the comp. We would like to offer the teams a fairly even playing field and are looking for boats 24ft and up. Full walk-around decks would be preferable but not necessarily essential.

I need to have 8 boats available plus 2 stand-by boats so if 10 boat owners could assist in making their boats available to WPDSAA this year it will be appreciated.

We have suitably experienced skippers available if you don't have a skipper for your boat.

Skippers receive all meals and accommodation as well as a R2000 fee for the comp regardless of the number of days fished. This fee is split pro-rata with a standby skipper if one is needed as a replacement on any fishing day.
All skippers will have days allocated towards their WPDSAA skipper colours.

Fuel is paid for for the duration of the comp plus any delivery fuel to get your boat to and from Simonstown.
Moorings are available for anyone who doesn't wish to launch from a trailer each day.

I include a link to the online boat owner/skipper registration form for anyone who can assist us.
Please complete it via your phone or PC and I will get back to you.

Here is the link - https://tinyurl.com/WPboat

For those boat owners who would prefer to enter their boat and own team into the club side of the comp (Big cash and other prizes), I have included an invitation from the CBSC October Comp organising committee as an attachment to this email.

If you plan to enter the club comp or your boat is unavailable, please drop me a mail in any event so as to let me know that I can take you off my list and don't continue to bug you.

I am at iqbroker@gmail.com

Many thanks
Regards

Please show your membership your card when asked by our Customer Service Officers as they are trying to control entry, especially on weekends.

We ask that you exercise a bit of patience when you are asked to sign your guest/s in at the front gate.

A reminder to all about our guest policy as stated in the Club By-Laws:
5 b. Visitors to the club shall be signed in by a member and the conduct of such visitor shall at all times be the responsibility of the signing member whilst on club premises.

PADDLING

If your kayak or surf ski is on the large rack at FBYC, please check it is secured correctly.
Paddlers Racks
Last week, we laid the last cement section below the large racks to make the lower racks (D level) more effective in terms of storage and to improve the drainage and damp in that area.A number of kayaks in the lower racks had to be moved so please could you go to the club and ensure your kayak is still secured correctly. If you are not able to get to FBYC because you are away or out of Cape Town for a period of time, please contact Yvonne at the front office, telephone 021 786 1703 and email info@fbyc.co.za and we will make sure you craft is secure. Please note, this information applies to the large rack only.

Last week's '1st Saturday of the month paddle.'

IMG_0028 -
Last weekend, for the 'First Saturday of every month' paddle, we had a turnout of 9 kayakers and surf skiers on the waterat 10am. We had perfect, windless conditions so any paddler of any level of experience could enjoy the morning. We headed towards Glencairn/ Fish Hoek/ Kalk Bay with various paddlers turning back as they felt they had done enough excersise, returning to the FBYC slipway in pairs. It was a morning of safe kayak and surf skiing, with the brave (& foolish!) going all the way to Kalk Bay for a quick leg-stretch & returning to the yacht club in the same perfect wind conditions.
