Buoy deployments around Cape Town

Anchor has been contracted by the City of Cape Town to deploy moorings around the Green Point, Camps Bay and Hout Bay effluent pipelines for biomonitoring purposes using mussels. The study will run until the first week of April.

The effluent is buoyant in nature requiring us to have the buoys relatively close to the surface. We have tried to keep them fairly deep to avoid possible collisions but with recent springs they inevitably break the surface. The buoys do not have any light or radar reflectors as they are primarily submerged.

We have been in contact with Transnet port control, the Green Point moorings are within their jurisdiction. SAMSA has been notified. We notified the South African Navy Hydrographic Office who indicated they have issued a nav warning. The warning hasn't appeared on their site yet though.

A PhD student need assistance - please complete the survey

A member from Wahoo SBC asked for assistance from anglers - his nephew is doing his PHD and needed anglers to complete the short survey.
Would you be so kind and email it to all the SADSAA anglers and if they can assist – please see the message in red with the link to complete the survey.

I have attached a link to a survey from a PhD student below. Please may you fill it in if you have been on a guided angling tour and share with any other fisherman you know that have been on guided tours? It could have been a guided tour anywhere in the world not only SA.

Thanks.

ATTENTION ANGLERS: Have you ever been on a guided angling trip - even if only for one day? If your answer is YES - then please tell us about it in the following short online research survey:

https://forms.gle/WBNG5rm2PK6QsDh98

It is very simple and will take only five minutes of your time. Your responses will contribute significantly to an ongoing research project with the SAFER Lab at the Rhodes University Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science.
