NSRI SEA RESCUE - STATION 10

While we may be in our new base now, it is a journey that would have not been possible without the generosity of the False Bay Yacht Club, the Commodore, the Management Team, the staff members, the members and the Simon's Town Marina Company who all gave us a home when we had none.

They created a space for us to put a temporary base, to moor our big boat while she lived in the water and allowed us the use of their facilities.

To thank the Yacht Club for their kindness, NSRI has gifted 8 Pink Rescue Buoys to the Club to be placed strategically around the marina.
Sea Rescue Simon's Town is in a new home! After more than a year of being in a temporary base within the False Bay Yacht Club whilst our new building was being completed, our crew members are so excited to be back in our home and back to normal.

ROWING

Finally, away we went last Friday on our first CVID club tour for a rejuvenating camping weekend at Misverstand Dam.

With many a comical twist and a turn, this time with our own local stand-up comedian, newest club member, and former SA rowing team member and Atlantic rower, Thato Mabelane. Welcome to the CCRC circle of love Tats!
Fortunately, the good weather ‘no rain’ camping plan came together. We managed to round up 28 happy, healthy bodies including 10 teenagers and one of our four club matriculants. One being competent club rower Stella Goosen, who with her sister Olivia grew up coached by dad Pete (Vice Captain) in a non-competitive environment, joined the rest of us 18 adults for a break with her family. Well done Stella for braving what no textbook could ever teach you!
Travelling with two quads, two doubles and a single, we managed to offload and set up camp in time for the traditional Friday sunset row to the dam wall, just 5km from our spot at Edenvallei Camp Site.

Wonderful fresh air festivities around braai fires the night before saw a wonderfully lazy rowing start on Saturday morning. Easily remedied by afternoon naps and impromptu wine tasting at Nieuwedrift Wine Estate in Piketberg, most were sufficiently charged for a brief evening row in the fresh South Easterly.

The 07h30 start on Sunday morning paid off to complete a scenic 26km return row up, and downstream in ideal conditions. Picnic and pit stops, swims, tree swings, lots of banter all the way.

Packing up the fleet on Thursday night, and down again with many helping hands back at FBYC at 18h00 on Sunday afternoon, rounded off yet another fabulous club adventure!

Thank you to our diligent team of organisers, towers, helpers, and club friends who made this long-awaited escape come together amid far too many cancelled tours this year.

Watch this space for more about our next club adventure on Saturday 24 October. The CCRC team led by Captain Estelle, plans to participate in the Prescient Freedom Paddle, the 27km race/paddle/row from Oceana Power Boat Club around Robben Island and back.

In the meantime, we keep following our solo adventurer, Zirk Botha while he prepares for his Atlantic crossing early December. Go Zirk! https://www.facebook.com/ZirkBotha.FB
