CLUB REMINDERS & NOTICES

NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS

It has come to the attention of the marina company that skippers of boats involved in collisions or contact incidents with other boats when manoeuvring in the confines of the marina are not reporting them.

Please, the protocol is, to file a report in the incident book at the soonest opportunity, irrespective of you seeing visible damage or not. In addition, try to make personal contact with the owner.

If you do not do so and it is reported by a third party, your name will come up at Gencom and you will be suitably chastised.

Please can we all take responsibility for our actions.

Orange container huts destined for Gough Island

You may have seen two orange containers on the hard and wondered what’s that about? They are going to Gough Island (South Atlantic, 40 S 9 W) as field huts for a mouse eradication project in 2020. FBYC member Ben Dilley is a seabird biologist working on Marion and Gough Islands and does the odd side project too!

Gough Island is the breeding site for millions of seabirds, but mice were accidentally introduced in the 1800s by sealing parties. The introduced mice are now killing seabirds, eating 100s of thousands of eggs and chicks a year, threatening the existence of several bird species found nowhere else. These two field huts will be transported to Gough on the SA Agulhas II research vessel and flown into the mountains. The eradication is planned for mid-2020 and if all goes well, Gough will retain its status as the world’s most important seabird island. I’m very grateful to Spilly and STMC for renting us hard space for this project, thank you!

ANGLING

Info about the beginnings of the old Marlin and Tuna Club which was long ago incorporated in to FBYC.

Bit of nostalgia for some.

Courtesy of Jason Lagan who was given this years ago by someone up in Natal while on holiday.

Regrettably its old and faded, but you can still read it.
