Letter from Willy Learmonth, Trustee

I unfortunately could not attend the FBYC AGM last month, but I do know that Dr John Cowlin had to step down from Trusteeship of the Club having completed his second 2 year term.
I am sure that at the 2019 AGM he was shown appreciation for his leadership and contribution to both FBYC and STMC.
I am not, however, sure that the extent of his contribution is clear - to both long standing and newer members of FBYC - and that John, in his relatively short membership of FBYC to date, undertook the following senior leadership positions in our club :-

2 separate terms of 2 years each as Commodore = 4 years
1 x 4 year term as Chairman of the board of STMC = 4 years
2 x 2 year terms as Trustee of FBYC = 4 years
3 year term on FinCom = 3 years
Years of Leadership contribution 15 years ( excluding ordinary GenCom membership )

These 15 years of Leadership service to FBYC are, notably, out of total of 22 years membership of FBYC, which equates to 2 out of every 3 years membership - which is probably the highest ratio of service years to membership years of any club member in the life of the Club – since 1958.

I, for one, would like to extend my sincere and heartfelt thanks to John for the many years of valuable service to our Club, including taking responsibility for “re-floating” our sinking ship in his first stint as Commodore !

NAVIGATION & WEATHER WARNINGS

No weather or navigation warnings were received this morning, but please check the Safety at Sea notice board, next to the bathrooms - Red Light will be on if there are further Navigation and Weather Warnings for the day.

NSRI Station 10 Simon's Town

We are so grateful for an extremely generous donation from the False Bay Yacht Club.
The FBYC has always been such a phenomenal supporter of our Station and volunteers. During our base rebuild, our Station has set up a temporary base at the Club.
Thank you so much to FBYC members who give a contribution to the Station as part of their annual subscription.

ANGLING

For the latest news on False Bay fishing, the best place to look which has regular updates is the Cape Boat and Ski Boat Club (Rumbly Bay, Millers Point) Facebook Page.

https://web.facebook.com/groups/59481920605/?_rdc=1&_rdr

With daily updates at least you will only be chasing yesterday’s fish.

For those FBYC Sailors and new anglers who are keen fisherman please contact me Bryan (bryan@earthpower.co.za) if you are interested in an evening braai/workshop where you can get some tips and advice.

Kind regards,
Bryan de Vit Fitchat

Intasure Spring Regatta | Breeze On

In true Spring-in-the-Cape fashion the wind and weather was all over the show proving a challenge for the teams on the water.

Sailing began on Saturday and winds were minimal as the rain and cloud cover came over thick and strong. Teams were drenched to the bone and yet still sported big smiles around the course, just happy to be out on the water.
