ANGLING

Offshore league was fished last Sunday (24 Nov) and good Yellowfin were caught on 10, 15 and 24 kg line.

Yellowtail and Katonkel were caught around the point.
Some boats fishing for Yellowtail were smashed up by Yellowfin tuna on their light tackle. Beautiful blue 18 degree water at the point at the moment.

For the first time since the 1960’s a big Yellowfin was caught off the ledges at Rooikranz and more on Monday.

Some Longfin or maybe Yellowfin were seen in Simons bay yesterday (Monday 25 Nov).

PADDLING/ ROWING

Cape Coastal rowers experienced coastal rowing in its truest form on Sunday as we ventured across to Atlantic waters with the plan to row from Hout Bay to Kommetjie.
Popular in demand, this tour filled 14 seats in two quads and two doubles. Included in the fleet was Johnny and Estelle’s newly acquired, much loved Hout Bay double. Aptly named ‘Skrik for Niks’ she accompanied the fleet showing a pretty bow in 3.5m swells below the Sentinel and Chapman’s Peak.
Weather conditions allowed for a 12.6 km lumpy, adrenaline filled ride halfway to Kommetjie after the safety call for an earlier than planned breakfast.
We now look forward to doing the full distance on a perfect day in 2020!
And, best wishes for a speedy recovery to our Johnny Bothma from Hout Bay Yacht Club. Thanks for seeing us off and the great footage from Chapman’s Peak Drive!

SAILING

Sailing times have been corrected for the twilight races.
Apologies for the confusion.
Just to mention that we now have our new permanent marker buoys are in place and although only 2 races have been sailed using some of the marker buoys it would appear that the options now available for setting more interesting courses are being appreciated. We look forward to more boats entering the racing fleet during the summer season.

This weekends Seal Island Pursuit is all a go for Sunday with the weather and breeze looking perfect for an idyllic sail around Seal Island. The pursuit format is one of the more exciting type of sailing events as the slowest boat starts 1st and the fastest last. With a steady breeze forecast for Sunday and the breeze actually perfect for just about any sailboat it should get quite congested at around 15h00 near the finish line. Come on all you cruising types this is the event that we have all been waiting for. Lets have 25+ boats on the water. Get your entries in via email to sailing@fbyc.co.za as soon as possible.
