St Josephs
St Joseph’s Home (SJH) for Chronically Ill Children is a registered non-profit organization which has been a pioneer in the field of paediatric intermediate health care in South Africa. We provide free transitional care for chronically ill children from disadvantaged families, from hospital to home through a holistic health and wellness programme. Patients are referred from State Hospitals to continue with post-acute, restorative, palliative and rehabilitative care.
On Saturday 7 December 2019 at 0900 we will be conducting a CARIBBEAN CRUISERS GAM in the Crow's Nest Bar at the False Bay Yacht Club in beautiful Simon's Town. A GAM is a meeting of sailors to exchange news and information - and that is exactly what we will be doing at FBYC. The coming months of December and January is the season that the international cruising fleet is coming out of the Southern Indian Ocean, rounding the African Capes, and following the Trade Winds to the azure waters of the balmy Caribbean. The South African yachting community has so graciously extended a warm hospitality to the international cruising fleet, and we hope to pay back your kindness in a small way by sharing our cruising experience.

At this free informal meeting we will be discussing topics which we all need to enhance our voyaging and living-aboard:
Chart talk and voyage planning
Communications and weather information
South American ports of call
the Windward Islands of the Caribbean
the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean
the Panama Canal
Outfitting & provisioning

  • We will have a Circumnavigators Forum where you can ask experienced cruising sailors questions regarding cruising under sail and living aboard.
  • We will have a Woman's Round Table to discuss the unique topics of interest for women aboard cruising yachts
  • For those interested in cruising the Northeast Coast Of South America enroute to the Caribbean, you can access a series of 13 free Amazonia Pilots starting at: https://www.sailblogs.com/member/tigerlilly/295701 and working back to the Rio Orinoco Delta in previous posts.
  • NOVA MARINE is sending a crew from Cape Town to conduct a life raft and safety demonstration.
This CARIBBEAN CRUISERS GAM is open for any interested sailor - or dreamer - interested in voyaging to the West Indies or beyond. Please spread the word, and RSVP to Yvonne at FBYC at info@fbyc.co.za.
SEE YOU THERE!

ANGLING

Only 3 boats fished the league, Wee Nenya, Seekat and Haven.

Haven launched at Gordons Bay and returned across the bay after the weigh in.

We borrowed the WP scale for weighing.

Largest fish was caught by Stuart Meiklejohn, an 8.2 kg Yellowtail. On 6kg line, that’s a good catch.

Haven each caught 5 species – Yellowtail, Katonkel, Jaocpever, Hottentot and Panga (carpenter). Wee Nenya managed 3 species. Tail, Katonkel and roman. Seekat, Yellowtail and Katonkel.

Multiple species multiplies your score.

A good day fishing day was had by all, with a lot of Yellowtail and Katonkel at the point. A few snoek and large Mackeral were caught in Buffels Bay as well as good Chokka.

Listening to the boats talking on channel 71, the crayfish were a bit scarce and just on size

We had a flock of dolphin racing the boat for a while, always a pleasure to experience. Many jumping clean out the water.
