STBB Twilight Series
Wednesday sees the 5th and final race
of the series followed by a prize-giving – with live music. The start will be at 17:30 in view of the ever earlier sunset. The current forecast is for a lower to mid-teens south-easter. Should be a great evening worthy of a record-breaking entry of more than 16 boats.Adamastor’s RevengeAccording to Portuguese poet Luis de Camoes, Adamastor is a Greek-type mythological character representing the dangers Portuguese sailors faced when trying to round the Cape of Storms – Cabo das Tormentas – henceforth called the Cape of Good Hope. It is not clear who was responsible, but someone upset Adamastor over the Easter week-end. After a 40+ knot south-easter ruled out racing in the Brass Bell Easter Regatta on Saturday, it was decided to move the event to the long weekend at the end of the month and sail a Fun coastal race around Bakoven Rock and a buoy laid off the Brass Bell by Josh on Sunday. Adamastor obviously had other ideas and threw down “storm and tempest” on the fleet of ten boats, most of whom decided that discretion was the better part of valor and retired at various points leaving Ken Balman with his “yellow peril”, DHL BT2, as the sole finisher. Not bad for an L26!

Saturdays race is scheduled to be a normal Round-the-Cans event (start 14:30), but the current forecast suggests less than 10 knots of wind. Maybe Adamastor is repenting for Sunday. Watch the forecasts!
