FBYC is awaiting a response regarding their Expression of Interest to partner with St Helena Yacht Club and St Helena Tourism in the organisation and promotion of the Governor's Cup Yacht Race 2018, which is scheduled for December this year. We will pass on important information as it comes to hand but, if you are interested in participating and require any advice, you are most welcome to contact Billy Leisegang, bleisegang@yahoo.com, 021 782 2978, 078 189 8964. You must be a member of FBYC, must have your own kayak, a life jacket and preferably have a safe place to keep your cell phone.

Term 2 started on Friday 13 Apr with 7 keen students, weather was near perfect for a quick sail, students had a brief lesson on helming and sail trim.

On Saturday the boys arrived first and prepped the boat while waiting for the girls to join. Despite the strong breeze out in the bay they got a great sail focusing on helming and sail trim again.

This event is not just for racing boats, it is for all yachts, be it cruising, multihull or racing, big and small. If you don’t have an ORC rating, don’t worry, there is a club class as well. Please see the NOR on the website.

This race is not just about performance, it is about completing the challenge…

Please check out the Race website at www.mosselbayrace.co.za

There is also a Race FB page.. suggest “liking” it to be kept upto date with the event as it will become more active as the event gets closer.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the organizers , should you have any queries regarding your potential entry in this event.

Kind regards,
Dale Kushner

Discover Scuba

This year’s dive festival will once again have a PADI DSD (discover scuba diving) program to run alongside the regular festival dives. With the help of local PADI Instructors and dive schools we aim to get 100 DSDs done over the 2 days of the festival and thereby introduce 100 new scuba divers to Cape Town diving. The cost of a festival DSD is only R200 (it’s normally around R1 000) or R100 for scholars or it’s free to FBYC members. All the equipment you need is included.

We will start running DSD groups at 9am on the Sat & Sun of the festival with small groups and their instructor getting kitted-up and heading out every few minutes.

To book a DSD spot please contact our DSD co-ordinators Sarah and Steve at Dive Action info@diveaction.co.za or phone (021) 511 0800 or phone or WhatsApp 082 881 1660.
