CLUB REMINDERS & NOTICES
Cape Town Cycle Tour : Club Office Closure
Members please note that the Club’s Front Office will be closed on Sunday 8th March and the Crow’s Nest Bar will open at 13h00, due to road closures during the Cape Town Cycle Tour.
After the budget speech in Feb, our suppliers have increased the cost of alcohol.
Unfortunately this means that the club bar prices will be increasing this week but we continue to strive to keep those prices low.

For many years, SA Sailing managed to persuade SAMSA that yacht owners could be relied on to conduct thorough hull inspection of their own when their vessels come out of the water for antifouling. (Read more)

Piracy in the Middle East has turned South Africa into a major stopover for bluewater cruisers who are circumnavigating the world by sea and need an alternative route. Ocean Cruising Club Port Officers on both the Indian Ocean and South Atlantic shores have been increasingly busy welcoming visitors, often on the last legs of their journeys. ....READ MORE

ANGLING
Not much been happening lately, a few mackerel in Simonstown, a few but good size chokka off the quarry and Fish Hoek when weather has allowed.
Point cold and fish scarce.
Good Kob and Elf have been taken from the shore from Strandfontein down to strand, not much from boats.
No tuna arrived as yet, but the good ship Beluga with skipper Steve Potter has been targeting marlin quite successfully. Any day now…..
2020 Leg 1 for First Offshore Tuna League date is set for the weekend 14 or 15th March.
Any boats interested in fishing this WP offshore league for FBYC this year please contact me or the WP Tournaments Officer.
We have successfully run a radio test at FBYC so that we can utilise Ski-Boat Mobile’s Channel 71 repeater in case of emergencies and for general assistance often needed by visiting yachts and our small craft. Hopefully we can afford to do that soon.
Ski-boat mobile is a voluntary service operated by Dave Melley and Andrew Perrins. Sponsorship and contributions are welcome.
Please remember to call on channel 71 and chat on 69, help keep 71 open.

PADDLING/ ROWING
Our Stanford tour this weekend was a heap of fun that blew away any romantic notions we may have held of quaint windless villages. What it did teach us was to row better, start the party earlier, and appreciate the calm by Sunday morning.
The Klein Rivier and town remains a charmer of note, magnificently depicted by drone, thank you for the footage Tommy! So much to see and explore along river paths, the Friday night community market, art galleries, and restaurants.
Saturday afternoon inspired a couple of wine tastings at Sir Robert Stanford, topped by spectacular scenery at Stanford Hills Estate. Tried and tested accommodation at the old favourite River House, and new discovery at Osborne Cottages lived up to expectations, already booked for our Belgium visitors in September.
A huge thank you everyone, and to Captain Estelle for towing our 11 seats in the wind, what an experience!
