Please note the following settings - there will be a waiting room, FBYC will allow you in, please be patient.

The meeting will be recorded.
|
1. Default your microphone to 'mute' during the meeting to cut out background noise and only switch it on when you need to speak.
|
2. As a courtesy to everyone else, please switch on your camera during the meeting, but switch it off if you need to leave your device for any reason as this causes a distraction for the speaker
|
3. Advise your family members of the meeting so that they don't disturb you unnecessarily.
|
4. Get as close to the Wi-Fi point as possible in a quiet area
|
5. If you would like to raise a question wait for question designated time or indicate to the speaker by raising your hand ... it is impossible to see all so send your questions to me for inclusion or send an email after the meeting to get a response from us.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS
|
|
|
THE BAR IS OPEN - PLEASE NOTE BELOW
|
- You may order, pay for and collect your drinks from the bar before sitting down.
- Kindly return your empty glasses and bottles to the bar counter.
- Strict social distancing protocols have to be adhered to at all times, whether you are in a queue or sitting down in the bar area.
- Tables and chairs will be set up for social distancing, allowing only 4 persons per table. Do not join any tables please.
- Masks may only be removed once you are sitting down with your drinks.
- The DMA gazetted information states that no more than 50 persons may be allowed at the club at one time.
- With this in mind, please try to accommodate fellow members on busy days so that everyone can enjoy the bar upstairs.
- A maximum number of 40 members signed in at the gate will be allowed upstairs. When considering staff and members, we cannot allow more than 50 persons at the club.
- Note the Clubhouse is still closed for any other social activities, including Friday Night Draws, braai areas, events, swimming, etc.

We have a limited number of openings available for new angling members with trailered boats.
|
|

If there are any youngsters mad keen, I would be happy to provide a site, both inshore and offshore.

This years league is still open on all fronts (South, West and Offshore Leagues) due to covid shutting it down early.
|
Very few legs have been fished so points are still low. Scoring is on the grand prix system so the winner on the day gets 1000 points, so with luck one can easily catch up.
|
Should anyone aspire to WP or National colours, this is the route to go,

ROWING
|
Cape Coastal Rowing Club 25 August 2020
|
Joyous moments they were as rowing resumed across the country last month!
|
Cape Coastal Rowing Club has embraced legal outings with great care and consideration within the new constraints on clubs. Initially restricted to doubles and singles with a maximum of seven rowers per outing, came to an end on Saturday when three quads took to the water before the 2020 AGM.
|
This year’s AGM was, thankfully, held in the Crow’s Nest at the Club and via Zoom, highlighted the positive outcomes of the year, (yes, there were many despite Covid), and plans afoot for the year ahead.
|
A great big thank you to outgoing Commodore Pieter Coetzer who has steered his ship with precision and passion. To name but a few of his many accomplishments within raising greater awareness of development rowing and funding during his terms, Pieter initiated and developed a close relationship and training program with Lawhill Maritime Academy. He successfully cultivated superb relations and communications with False Bay Yacht club at every level, while motivating our foreign counterparts and touring clubs to enjoy reciprocity in Cape Town. All this, while keeping his members and family happy!
|
On Saturday Pieter handed over the reigns to long standing member and Treasurer, Sasha Planting who with her husband Greg, has kept our coffers and balances in fine check during two terms, thank you both. Sincere congratulations Sasha, as we celebrate with you the historic moment of your appointment as first lady Commodore of CCRC!
|
Well done and congratulations to Captain Dr Estelle Wiid, with your re-election and agreement to stay another term. We’d be lost without your tenacity, gusto, and mischievous humour, especially at first light!
|
Congratulations to newly elected committee member and long-standing rower and contributor to the club, Peter Goosen as Vice Captain. Pete takes over from Cath Greenwood who stays on as committee member after a huge contribution, particularly related to coaching and Lotto funding for the acquisition of Lawhill boats. A big thank you for contending with the challenges of official paperwork!

Another warm welcome to Ivan Heesom-Green, our new Treasurer who not only joined the club just a year ago, but who will now be juggling our books in between holding the reigns at SAMTRA and hardly missing a day of rowing.
|
Special thanks to Bryne Fisher-Geoffs for staying on, as you tirelessly continue to maintain our boats with the utmost care and passion, not to mention an unmatched set of technical skills we all desperately need to acquire. We salute you Bryne!
|
At the root of the excellent rowing skills found in this club, is our dedicated Coach Master Derrick Read, who with sheer tenacity practises the belief that ‘there’s only way to row and that’s the right way’. Thank you for staying on and continuing with growing our international tours!
|
Then to Kobus Huisamen who stays on as Projects Manager, we appreciate your input and fine tuning of a lot of essential work quietly done behind the scenes.
|
Lastly, thank you to Anna-Marie Smith who is delighted to be re-elected to continue with both Tours and Social Media as we stay connected and grow awareness of Cape Coastal Rowing Club across borders and virtual platforms.
|
We look forward to once again mingling with fellow FBYC members and supporting our home base restaurant when it re-opens.

SAILING
|
A fantastic turn out of 11 boats made it to race in near perfect conditions on Saturday. There are no results as we only have 2 valid 2020/2021 ORC certificates.
|
If you are not wanting to validate your certificate I am unable to give you a club racing result.
|
|
We will be running with ORC – they have a great special running so no reason not to get a valid certificate.
|
|
|
|
IN HOUSE CLUB SPRING REGATTA 2020 - FURTHER DETAILS TO FOLLOW IN NEXT WEEK'S NEWSLETTER.

NEXT RACE DAY WILL BE SATURDAY 05 SEPTEMBER 2020
PLEASE FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE RULES AND RACE PROCEDURES BEFORE RACE DAY.
|
- Your boat needs a valid COF
- You and your crew need to be members of the club and SAS (Confirmation to 'play' letter from SAS is needed) Non – member crew need to be signed up for club day temp membership at the front office.
- You and all crew members must wear a mask/buff at all times.
- A record of all persons on board to be kept for tracing purposes.
- A maximum of 5 persons per boat.
- Start/Finish Line: Between Club mast & Emergency (LARGE ORANGE) Buoy
- Radio checks (Channel 71) will be done from 13h45 – Boat, sail number, number of crew and skipper name will be recorded by the office. (No need to come into the club house to sign in)
- Course card will be sent here at 13h30
- 5 boats still count for a fleet
This will be a 4 week series run every second weekend with the fleet challenging the previous winner for a Virtual Cup.

This series will be the Groggy Series – with each new series having unusual nautical terms to make them a little more fun.
|
Groggy
The term groggy means dazed and weakened or intoxicated, the way one might feel after he or she partakes in a goblet full of its root word grog, which is a mixture of rum and water. The term grog is a reference to a British admiral who ordered his sailors' rum to be diluted; he was nicknamed Old Grog because he wore a grogram cloak.
