ROWING
Cape Coastal Rowing Club – last word for 2021
All COVID and other challenges considered we’re most grateful to have had a wonderful year, at every level possible!
The fact that our recent, way overdue Annual General Meeting was so well attended in person, preceded by a fabulous tour of our NSRI home base, followed by the customary year-end family braai, is good enough reason to not only acknowledge our privileges but celebrate those pleasures.
A good set of books and thankfully no major disasters to report, the direct result of the commitment of our entire team, from the managing committee and sub-working teams to every member and rower.
Together we welcome our visitors, coach students and newbies, support those in need of any sort and form, maintain boats, face challenging weather conditions, tour together, all for the love of ocean rowing.
Our tours went exceptionally well this year, thanks to the energetic and resourceful teams who went beyond the call of duty on every occasion. Together we enjoyed scenic day tours, beach sprints, regattas, weekend tours to Stilbaai and Knysna, and the last tour of the year with our German friends to the Eastern Cape. What a roaring success, thank you Pieter and helpers! So far, CCRC’s calendar for 2022 looks good.
Should international travel restrictions relax sufficiently by March, we currently look forward to welcoming the overdue German group visiting us from Crefelder Rowing Club. We sincerely hope that interest shown from other areas, including Dutch and Belgium rowing clubs will materialise into actual tours next year. Local tours to the Breede River, West Coast, and Stanford/Hermanus are lined up with sufficient gaps for exciting day tours, events, and visitors.
From boat maintenance and building perspective, and with the inability to ever replace the expertise of our dear Bryne and Graham, we now have a maintenance committee dedicated to boat needs and sourcing of new suppliers. Thank you everybody for your generous efforts!
We once again look forward to coaching new and existing Lawhill Maritime Institute students from homebase, and to this year share some fun events with our closest kayaking neighbours.
It is with pleasure that we announce our 2021 committee, sadly minus Bryne. All who by majority vote agreed to roll over in their 2020 portfolios to continue with their superb efforts and guiding. To our Treasurer, Ivan Heesom-Green always at the ready to balance a superb set of books, thanks from all of us! Commodore – Sasha van der Kroll Captain - Estelle Wiid Vice-Captain - Peter Goosen Coachmaster, Tours - Derrick Read Strategic planning Boats, Events - Kobus Huisamen Tours, Social Media - Anna-Marie Smith

Finally, enormous thanks goes to False Bay Yacht Club, Rob Newman, Natasha Fish and teams for a magnificent home base, clubhouse, and restaurant that never ceases to make us proud.
Our best wishes go with you for a chilled and safe festive season!
From all of us at Cape Coastal Rowing Club

NOTE FROM DANIEL HUGHES: "As a result of there being so many tournaments we were not able to get all the events on the calendar. The anglers that are or want to participate in other tournaments will need to follow up on the SADSAA tournament calendar and adjust accordingly! I am aware that there are still a few tournaments whose dates might be changed or are outstanding so there will still be changes but the anglers can do these changes as and when we are informed about them".
