ROWING

Rowing continues to draw enthusiastic newcomers
to our part of the South Peninsula.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our two newest members, both locals who are engineers and avid sea-faring ocean lovers.

Professor John Lazarus, who from now on will be known as JohnL, coincidentally was a past tutor of CCRC Vice Captain Peter Goosen at UCT in Hydraulic Engineering. A keen sailor and watersport enthusiast, with years of wind and kite surfing, paddling, and stand-up paddleboarding experience.
Another warm welcome to John Martheze now JohnM, recently retired civil engineer and former 1st Muizenberg Sea Scout, sailor, windsurfer, rower, and paddler.

We wish you both many happy strokes in rowing as you complete the learn-to-row programme, with coach master Derrick Read and others, to join us on club outings soon.

Together with John W (Watermeyer) that brings us to the total sum of three Johns in the club!
Coaching in all forms and manners at present with another group of enthusiasts, our Grade 10 students who eagerly attend their coaching sessions on Fridays and Saturdays, now all kitted out with new water shoes thanks to a member donation.

Well done to Lawhill Maritime Institute who so generously grant us the privilege to interact with these young adults, as they discover the endless benefits of ocean sport.

All systems go for our next club tour to the West Coast in August, awaited with great anticipation.

In the meantime, we enjoy following Jeremy Bagshaw’s incredible commitment to his dream. Go Jeremy, you are admired from afar while we take lessons, and wish you the very best on your voyage ahead!
