MEMBERS, PLEASE TAKE NOTE
Dear Members
Our financial year-end is 30th June and subscriptions for the coming year are due in July.
The General Committee would like to thank members for their ongoing support at the Club over the past year. Although Covid-19 has impacted everyone in the country and it has certainly not been easy for many of us, we are happy to tell you that the Club has survived and continues to operate on a sound footing.
Renewal of Subscriptions:
Member Subscription invoices for the year, 01 July 2022 to 30 June 2023 will be sent out on 1st July 2022 and are due by 1st August 2022.
Due to inflation on the costs of running the club, it is necessary that the coming year’s subscriptions be increased by a small percentage in line with inflation, in order to cover the increase in the Club’s expenses. The affiliation fees to SAS will remain the same as for 2021/2022.
Early bird discount: A small discount will be granted to all members paying by 31st July.
Members may, by arrangement with Natasha our GM, request for payment terms to pay by 30th September (3 months).
Resignations:
Kindly note that in terms of the Club’s Constitution, should you not wish to renew your membership, you are obliged to advise the Club (Colleen / Yvonne admin@fbyc.co.za) before the end of June.
If resignations are not received by end June, subs billing will automatically take place and will become due and payable. Any resignations received after that date will incur pro-rata subscription fees up to the date of resignation.
Please stay safe, we will see you around the Club!

Saturday 11th June 2022 was a day to Celebrate “Nurturing Sea Fever” at False Bay Yacht Club.
The first 5 Students from the Lawhill Maritime Centre at Simon’s Town School qualified as Skippers Under 9m Category E. They were examined by Peter Daly and all passed their written and practical tests.
They have been trained for the last 10 months on Speranza by Ian Hare and during the last month on the RIB Sean Day by Digby Thomson.
After all tests were completed Category E under 9m SAMSA Certificates were awarded by Examiner Peter Daly.
After all the work was done a Braai was enjoyed by all at False Bay Yacht Club.
“Nurturing Sea Fever” is an endeavor by the General Botha Old Boys Association Bursary Fund to provide Sea Time and experience to Lawhill students to supplement what they are learning in the classroom.
To achieve Skippers Certificates is the Cherry on top.
Seen on the stern of Speranza wearing their newly awarded Speranza Tee shirts and GB Caps, and proudly displaying their Certificates are:
Alwande Sithole, Silvino October, Siphosethu Libalele, Anele May, and Xolisa Miggels.
Well Done and Bravo Zulu to all.

A VISITOR OF A DIFFERENT KIND – A SNOWY SHEATHBILL
On Tuesday 07 June 2022, a rather frantic man came to the office and asked to be allowed to go onto the mooring to see a Snowy Sheathbill, which is apparently a very rare bird to have a sighting of in this part of the world.
While skeptical I agreed to accompany him and, as he put it, "a few of his friends”.
The group turned out to be rather more than “a few” and anyone who is or knows a birding fanatic can attest to the excitement and pleasure at the sighting of a very rare bird.
It had a rather large contingency of enthusiasts who had been chasing it all day!
The group was very grateful that they were given access to the mooring, and the opportunity to see and photograph the bird.
A SNOWY SHEATHBILL: Unique, stocky, and rather pigeonlike white bird (an aberrant shorebird) of the Antarctic Peninsula and islands. Migrates north in winter to Tierra del Fuego and southern Argentina, where a few immatures remain year-round at sea lion and penguin colonies. Typically unafraid; walks around boldly to scavenge and even eat faeces. The plumage is entirely white (somehow remarkably clean given its habits) with a naked pale pinkish face and a pale green and orange bill. Flies strongly with stiff wingbeats; does not alight on water but will hitch ships.
