Cape Coastal Rowing Club - Stilbaai Tour
The club’s first 2021 tour this past weekend was a great success! We simply could not wish for better conditions, surroundings, company, and natural beauty.
It was business as usual with our traditional Friday afternoon paddle to the river mouth after unpacking boats, with 16 seats in two quads and three doubles. Saturday’s scenic row of 17.5 km took us up the Goukou Rivier, for a river side picnic and swim, with another meander to the mouth for a chilly beach swim beach on Sunday morning.
Oudewerfskloof Farm once again provided convenient and secure stowage for our boats and trailers, with easy access between the river jetty and the farm. Our party of 19, including three spouses were accommodated in style, and wonderful entertainment for sundowners at the jetty, and under the lapa at the communal braai and dining facilities.
Choices choices on Saturday afternoon, for the scenic walk to the Milkwood forest from Stilbaai Harbour, or gin tasting at Inverroche Distillery. Added to the many pleasures we enjoyed, was the company of newer members who succumbed to joining us on their first rowing tour, our Stilbaai and Mosselbay rowing friends, as well as non-rowing spouses always at the ready to lift and carry.
A big thank you to our towers, organisers, packers, caterers, barman, rowers, and every loyal spouse at home, whose contributions to these unforgettable touring weekends are invaluable.
Regular rowing outings from the club continued as usual while we were away. Some rowers also ventured further out last week to test the waters of Knysna, Stilbaai, Vermaaklikheid on the Duiwenshok Rivier, and the Berg River in Velddrif.
Greater focus on training from now, as our 17 Prescient Freedom Challenge entrants prepare for the 27km around Robben Island, in less than four weeks from now! See you all on the water.
