At last, we got to go sailing!
Wednesday’s Twilight Race was enjoyed by a few keen competitors (apologies to those who didn’t get off the water in time to get a drink at the bar!). Many thanks to Ingrid Baigrie for running the bridge and congratulations to Prion’s skipper and crew for taking the win, Sir Henry second place and Apple Pie third.
On Sunday the breeze played ball and ten boats took to the water for a Medium Distance Race. Many thanks to Hedley Prince for manning the bridge and to Pier 23 for sponsoring the prizes. Congratulations to Smidgin’s skipper and crew for winning the race! Second was Prion, third Snowgoose, fourth Firefly and fifth Strega. Please note that we are looking for sponsors for our club racing. There is a minimal cost involved for a lot of advertising potential! Please contact Nikki – sailing@fbyc.co.za or 082 974 4389 – if you, your company or a friend are interested in marketing their company to yachties.

Greetings from CCRC!
A lot more than just regular rowing and fun took place at FBYC and Long Beach Simon's Town over the past four weeks! Our club successfully completed our training, and awe-inspiring participation in the selections of four SA rowers to compete in the World Coastal Rowing Championships in Portugal this coming October.
This exciting first for our club, driven by Captain Estelle was hugely supported by committee members, club families, False Bay Yacht Club, and flat-water enthusiasts.
LADIES: Thato Mabelane, Payton Jefferies, Estelle Wiid and Nikita van Rooi.
MEN: Chris Hale, Jared Day, Ivan Heesom-Green, Kobus Huisamen, Pete Goosen and Geordie Kohler.
In Captain Estelle's words:
'I want to say a huge thank you to all the CCRC supporters this past weekend, on and off the water. You are all so appreciated!
Kudos to our boatman Bryne, thank you for the time and energy that you put into our boats. And of course, a big thank you to Derrick, our inspiration, coach, and mentor.
Congratulations to all participants, especially our champs Thato and Chris. Super proud of us all! With this successful trial run behind us, we would love the whole club getting involved going forward.'

Of course, none of the above would be possible without the sheer enthusiasm and diligence of Coachmaster Derrick Read, who commented:
'What a simply fantastic display of rowing, adaption skills, and team spirit to be seriously admired! Cape Coastal you are amazing, embracing our extremely youthful competitors and their coaches as our own. Our competitive spirit and rowing standard were World Class, competing against youngsters three to four times younger than us. We outrowed them in the Endurance events by far and led by our own youthful Chris, Ivan and Thato, we rowed the pants off them in the Sprints. With Kobus, Pete, and Stellie being only seconds away from victory to repeat the endurance results.
The support of our club members too was quite emotional, having crews watching and supporting from the water and members cheering from the beach. The display of club spirit of a special kind. Not to mention the work of Bryne and our maintenance team to prepare the sculls and doubles for a faultless performance of our equipment. Kobus and the logistics team with FBYC support in the organisation made for a faultless performance.
What an amazing club, thank you, CCRC and False Bay Yacht Club!’

Our next adventure this coming long weekend is a three-night club tour to our beloved Knysna waters. We plan to row on the Lagoon, to the Heads, up the Knysna River, and on Swartvlei Lagoon to Swartvlei Beach via Sedgefield.
Lastly our best wishes to Graham Heard, our sorely missed right-hand man for a speedy recovery.
All the best from all of us at CCRC!
