Sailing News

On Wednesday the 11th of August, a fleet of twelve yachts headed out into the bay for a Wednesday Twilight Race.

Well done to Kayo and Makers Mark for sharing the win – quite a thing to end up with exactly the same corrected time on handicap! Third place was Stella, fourth Jabulani, and fifth, Sir Henry.

Many thanks once again to Ingrid and Margaret for taking charge of the bridge.

Unfortunately, the Ladies Day Race scheduled for the weekend had to be postponed – too much wind on the Saturday and too little on the Sunday!
Looking to the week ahead, the first of the Winter Twilight Series racing is planned for Wednesday evening. This will be the first time that we will be using the new ORC ratings to calculate the results. Please note that we will be using the ‘All purpose, Time on Time’ rating found on the second page of your certificates.

The Ladies Day Race that had to be postponed is happening on Saturday – start 14:30 – please do have a lady on the helm if you can! In an effort to give back, we will be collecting handbags and toiletries to donate to Rape Crisis.

Please bring whatever you can donate along on the day or drop off any donations at Yvonne’s office during office hours.

Thank you ladies for paying it forward!

ROWING

Our club is grateful to have enjoyed a fabulous tour to Knysna last weekend.

We managed to make the best of superb conditions before the rain set in on Monday. Three whole days of bliss, with 13 seats in two quads, a double and single, all in magnificent surroundings. Delighted with superb reciprocity at Leisure Isle Yacht Club, where we set off on the traditional Friday afternoon row of 7km to the heads.

Saturday took us along 15km of scenic crossings, to Knysna Yacht Club for lunch, and back through the canals at Thesen Island. Sunday's outing of 27km was a first for the club as a whole. We loaded and launched from Trails End at Sedgefield, and rowed on the Swartvlei Lagoon past the village for a picnic at Swartvlei Beach.

All things CVID considered, with parties spread out in different accommodation setups, and chilly outdoor braais, it was both a privilege and fun!

Thank you to all our organisers, kindest trailer loaders, towers, guides, hosts, supporting families, friends, and hosting yacht clubs, for making this yet another unforgettable CCRC tour.

Best wishes from all of us at CCRC
