Around the World to 34° Degrees South
Having fired up kitchens from the Far East to Europe, including London’s Claridge’s Hotel, Chef Gary’s everyday ethos of ‘perfection is a lot of little things done well’ is reflected in his attention to detail with each serving and every stylish presentation. When pressed for what he is most passionate about however, Chef Gary reveals what makes him get up every day is his amazing Hollandaise sauce!
Often referred to throughout history as ‘the golden elixir’, Chef Gary’s Hollandaise sauce is one of five key sauces from French cuisine which can be served over vegetables, fish, meat and of course Eggs Benedict, a highlight on the 34° Degrees South breakfast menu featuring as The Benjamin with classic variations of crispy bacon, smoked trout, Chorizo and jalapeno, Biltong and peppadew and Mushroom and tomato. The Yachtsman’s Brekkie at R56.00 for FBYC members and R65.00 for non-members is a combo of two eggs, bacon, tomato, artisan toast, with complimentary Puro coffee/tea/ or juice. Another winning favourite with our regular patrons is chef’s Avocado Supreme, featuring crushed Avo, feta, nuts, seeds, and beetroot hummus on toasted rye.

Panoramic Ocean Views for Zesty Appetites
As the sun reaches its zenith over sparkling seascapes, against the call of seagulls, it is time for lunch! Try delectable servings of beer battered fried hake, Cajun dusted fried calamari, gourmet burgers and fresh salads straight out of Eden’s Garden. Tender and tasty, the Chicken Schnitzel offers a subtle bite for the tastebuds with a combo of panko crumbed chicken breast, crispy bacon, and a cheddar-jalapeno sauce served with chips or salad. Also popular for a bite-on-the-go are a selection of Tramezzini’s and Toasties. Long, lazy afternoons are the perfect occasion for tea and freshly baked scones and muffins.
At sunset every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm onwards, it is time for sundowners and starters before dinner is served. Start off with a Treasure Basket made up of your personal preferences when you choose from Chicken strips, Jalapeno poppers, Hake goujons, Chicken wings, Frankies, Riblets, Calamari, and Chips with Mayo. For hearty fishermen’s appetites order up the New York Strip of 300g Sirloin, fried egg, chips, and mushroom and thyme sauce at R120.00 for FBYC members and R155.00 for non-members. For even bigger appetites, 400g of succulent barbeque loin ribs served with chips and garden salad should prepare you for the sweet selection to round off your dining with a liqueur and a selection from the confectionery corner, notable the Chocolate Brownie smothered with caramel sauce and vanilla ice-cream.

BIG THANK YOU TO THE FIRST FBYC MEMBER TO DONATE SAILS
Mark Gibson has stepped up as the first FBYC member to donate 5 x sails to PROTECT THE WEST COAST (PTWC) following their article published in the last Dolphyn Diary.
PTWC is raising funds for their project by selling merchandise, such as upcycled bags and accessories, made from waste material like old yacht sails. Members have been asked to contribute to the cause by donating their old, unused sails which can be repurposed into merchandise and sold to raise funds. Managing Director, Mike Schlebach says, “We are looking mostly for old white or colourful Dacron sails and colourful spinnakers. In return, PTWC will give a repurposed medium duffel bag for each usable sail (not necessarily made from your old sail or sails at all). Please note that Spinnakers will not receive a duffel.” Should you wish to make a sail donation, please call Mike on 0727634486 or email mike@protectthewestcoast.org to organise a collection.
