CLUB REMINDERS & NOTICES

The General Committee will no longer be accepting any new trailer boat applications for membership as we have reached a saturation point.

Unfortunately we cannot accommodate more members with vehicles and trailers as there is a parking issue.

We do welcome those persons for the normal membership process if they so choose, without a trailerable boat.

This is effective 01 February 2020
SHOWERS CLOSED
Members please note that showers will be closed over weekends between 10h00 and 15h00 due to kids wasting water.

As you are aware, water is a precious resource and we just cannot tolerate this kind of behaviour. Please try to assist us in any way you can.

NO WAKE ZONE
We have received numerous complaints of vessels speeding through the anchorage.

This is a dangerous practice as people working on their boats could get injured by the wake caused by the speeding vessel.

Please note that the entire anchorage is a no wake zone, and that offenders will be subject to disciplinary action being taken against them.

MEMBERS LOCKERS
Lockers have been placed in the cloak rooms for members’ short term daily usage. Please use these lockers with your own lock and ensure lock is removed by the end of the day.

ANGLING

League Inshore Fishing

Arend Grondman, is organising an inshore league information session at the Cape Boat and Ski Boat Club on Saturday 25th January 2020 at 1pm at CBSC, Rumbly Bay, Millers Point.

Myself and other experienced league participants will be in attendance to share insights.

All interested FBYC anglers that would like to get more information on fishing inshore league, skippers that don’t have crew and crew that don’t have sites are all invited.

All registered FBYC anglers will already most likely be affiliated to Western Province and SADSAA – it is easy steps to start fishing league, which could start your journey to provincial and national colours for men, woman or juniors.

We will also have an overview of the latest rules, fishing areas and what bait and techniques to use.
You may have questions that we could answer for you.
Please to bring all the kids that have a potential interest in angling along so that we can start introducing them to the sport.

There will be a fire and boerewors rolls available for after the meeting and the bar and braai areas will be open.

Time wise all in all we should be done by 4pm.

Please let me know if you are interested for catering purposes.

Looking forward to seeing all club members there.

Yours in angling,
Bryan de Vit Fitchat

PADDLING/ ROWING

Serious cabin fever got the teams out on Saturday, this time for a much needed maintenance work party.

Well attended and organised by Bryne and Estelle, we made steady progress. Painting of blades and sewing of flotation bags was carried over for garage parties and windless days...

Thank you for popping in to see us all Julie and Mike Geddes, our dear NSRI rowing friends. We're with you all the way Julie.

Good to see father and son, our Johnny B and Nick Bothma working on their newly docked, beautiful Ariette from Hout Bay.

Great team work for staying connected!

SAILING

Myk2020-banner

Mykonos 2020 – Entries are open!

On 21 February 2020 we will be starting the 30th edition of the Mykonos Offshore race. This race has been a favourite of many South African sailors for many years. When the south-easter plays ball, the run up the coast to Saldanha is fantastic fun. However the bay race on the Saturday is the jewel in the crown for this regatta. Tina Plattner has labelled it as one of her two most favourite races anywhere in the world and she will be taking part on her TP52, Phoenix.
The Notice of Race has been published and entries are open. Make sure to get your entry in quickly as moorings at Club Mykonos are on a first-come, first-served basis and the race is sure to have a massive entry.
Club Mykonos are once more our major sponsor and they have kept accommodation prices at the same level as last year. The restaurants at Club Mykonos have been upgraded and are much more upmarket with a Cape Town Fish Market and Brauhaus, who will be offering specials throughout the regatta. The very popular Louise Day will get everyone on their feet and dancing on Saturday night after prize-giving.
Let us know how many Mykonos races you have taken part in over the last 30 years? Is there anyone who has sailed in all of them?
