A Note on Respect: Supporting Our Club Staff
|
As a community, our club is a place where we come to enjoy the ocean and connect with friends. However, lately there have been incidents where our dedicated staff members have been treated disrespectfully, spoken to harshly, or subjected to unfair criticism. Additionally, we somehow have members calling staff on their personal numbers well after official working hours for non-urgent matters.

Our staff work incredibly hard behind the scenes to keep our facilities running smoothly and to ensure we all have a great experience.
|

They are professionals, but more importantly, they are human beings who deserve a safe, supportive, and respectful workplace.
|
- Respectful Communication: Heated discussions, flirting, rude language, or dismissive
behaviour have no place in our club. If you have a grievance or a problem with a service,
there are official, constructive ways to log a complaint. Taking it out on a staff member is never acceptable.
- Boundaries Matter: Our team members are entitled to their personal time and family life.
Phoning after-hours disrupts their personal lives and crosses professional boundaries.
Unless it is an absolute emergency regarding the safety or security of the premises, please
refrain from contacting staff outside of operational hours.

We want our club to be a workplace our staff can be proud of, and an environment where they feel safe and valued. We kindly ask all members to take a moment to reflect on how we interact with the team moving forward. A simple "thank you," a patient attitude during peak times, and a respect for their time off goes a long way.
|
Management takes the well-being of our staff very seriously. Continued disrespect or harassment of staff will be treated as a violation of our club’s code of conduct and may result in disciplinary action.
|
Let’s work together to keep our club a welcoming, polite, and friendly environment for everyone, both in front of and behind the counter.
|

In July, 12 CCRC members headed to Berlin for the latest in a long-running series of friendship tours with our rowing friends in Europe. This year's tour took us on a 12-day circuit through Berlin and Brandenburg.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

1. The yacht Voortrekker (Sail Number SA 1) can in many ways be seen as the start of ocean-going racing in South Africa. This includes the building of the yacht which would signal the commencement of yacht building in this country. The history of the build project as well as the numerous subsequent races successfully competed in, is well documented in the Naval Heritage Trust publication Naval Digest (No 2: November 1999). In many ways, Voortrekker remains the raison d’être for the South African Ocean Racing Trust (SAORT) and to a lesser extend the Cruising Association of South Africa (CASA). In addition, the beginnings of a thriving yacht building industry as well as many subsequent ocean races (including the Cape to Rio races) can probably all be traced back to the commencement of this national project.
