CAPTAIN'S LOG – This Month at FBYC

Most popular yacht club in the country?

As of the end of January our False Bay Yacht Club membership stands at 1 529! In January we interviewed 13 new applicants to join our club, most of which are families or couples. The club, and its members, enjoyed a bumper summer season at this idyllic venue and the staff must be congratulated for all the hard work that went into making it the success it was.

While this is great news, this expanding demand on our exceptional facilities will, in time, become a problem. With this in mind, we are planning for the future of our club and the demands placed on it. As a volunteer committee, Gencom is currently reviewing all contracts and Standing Operating Procedures that govern the running of the club to ensure a structured future in line with our constitution.

We welcome all advise and support and for this there is a suggestion book in the foyer – please use it in support of your Club.

ROWING - Rowing at FBYC

The gig rowers are on the water every Friday at 4:15pm and gig rowing at FBYC continues to go from strength to strength.

Recently, we were delighted to invite National Sea Rescue Institute Station 10 to join us for a row. As traditional Cornish gigs were originally designed as life boats, it felt especially fitting to welcome our local sea rescue crew out on the water...
New members are always welcome, with no prior rowing experience needed. To get involved, contact Pete (FBYC rowing/kayaking rep) on 083 281 8768, Sasha (CCRC Captain) on 083 266 5882, or PC (Pieter), gig rowing captain, on 083 780 6704.

SAILING - Sailing at FBYC

Racing Results, Upcoming Racing, ORC Rating Certificates and more...

Cape to Rio 2025/6 SV Serendipity

"Our first day was good sailing and quite moving, watching our Table Mountain of the mother city get smaller as the miles clicked away under our keel.
We soon realized that our communication and weather downloads were not behaving as they should and debated our options for many hours, eventually deciding to put in at Saldanha to effect repairs.
Yes - the old days, they did it with a sextant and dragging a log for speed and very little else…"

CLUB NOTICES - FBYC Management

Farewell to Matthew Carter

After nine months with FBYC, we bid farewell to Matthew Carter, who has resigned from his position as Junior Bookkeeper.

During his time with us, Matthew contributed positively to the finance team and carried out his responsibilities with dedication and professionalism. We appreciate the work he has done and the support he provided to the
Club over the past months.

We thank Matthew for his efforts and wish him every success and happiness in his future endeavours.

GREEFF Joker Draw

As many of you know, the GREEFF Joker Draw has been a tremendous success, not only in raising funds, but also in bringing members together on the first Friday of every month. We are incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm and support shown by everyone involved.
However, due to the total funds raised exceeding our initial expectations and current compliance thresholds, we regret to inform you that we need to place the draw on hold temporarily.
We are working through the necessary requirements and will announce as soon as we are able to proceed again in the near future.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
