CAPTAIN'S LOG – This Month at FBYC
Sadly, Dan Pienaar has stepped down from GenCom after many years of dedicated service. We extend our sincere gratitude for his valuable contribution and expertise over the years. In the interim, GenCom has co-opted Alit Liebenberg onto the committee, whom we warmly welcome aboard.
This month, we have focused on standardising the SOPs for Charter Operators to ensure they operate within a clear and regulated framework. We are also currently in the process of negotiating revised MOUs between FBYC and the STMC, working collaboratively in the best interests of both the Club and its members. Due to high demand, we are unfortunately oversubscribed for slipway access. As a result, all new slipway applications are being declined until further notice. We are also in the early stages of designing and planning upgrades to the Club entrance, which will enhance access control.

Our Joker Draw has been temporarily placed on hold while we engage with the National Lotteries Board for guidance on the appropriate way forward.
On a positive note, we were delighted to hand over a cheque to the NSRI in the amount of R77,100, funded through member contributions, as a gesture of appreciation for their invaluable service.
We are pleased to announce that Minnie Liebenberg has extended her contract and will be taking on additional financial responsibilities within the Club.
Financially, the Club has enjoyed a strong season, with an approximate total profit of R550,000 for the year.
Preparations are underway for a Special AGM on 15 April, where members will be asked to approve a change in auditors. Further details will be shared in due course.
Members are encouraged to make use of the suggestion book in the foyer to share your feedback and ideas.
Please note: there will NO New Members Evening on Friday 3rd April due to Easter Weekend. The next New Members evening will be in May.

It has been a busy month for Cape Coastal rowing: The recent tour to Velddrif saw 18 members take on a 24km inland row, a remarkable 50-year reunion of a 1975 Wits University crew and SA national colours for coastal rowing...

Alit Liebenberg has been co-opted onto the General Committee
"I owned and ran a successful signage and rigging business for 36 years before retiring in 2023. Following my retirement, we relocated to Simon’s Town, where we own property in Glencairn and are currently building our home. I have been a passionate sailor for most of my adult life. For the past 27 years, we have owned Chadstar, our trimaran, which is moored at False Bay Yacht Club. Sailing remains a central part of my life. In addition to sailing, I have a strong interest in motorcycles, particularly adventure riding. Over the years, my family and I have enjoyed extensive sailing experiences, including participating in several offshore races from Mozambique to Richards Bay and Durban. We have held membership at Zululand Yacht Club, Lake Denys Yacht Club, and are now proud and active members of False Bay Yacht Club. As a sailing family, we truly value the club and its community. I look forward to becoming more involved and making a meaningful contribution."
