DOLPHYN DIARY NO: 31st MARCH 2017 – 200
Read your Dolphyn Carefully for all the – Sailing & Club events on the Calendar.
The reduced velocity of the wind on Sunday. (Did someone mention that autumn must be on the way?) led to the decision to adopt a shorter (and slightly different) course for the Medium distance race.
Fortunately, one of the octopus trap buoys placed at the entrance to Fish Hoek bay offered the ideal opportunity to set a longer course than normally used for our Round-the-Cans races, without having to run the risk of minimal wind in the middle of False Bay, as well as the option (which was used) to be able to shorten the course, in such a way as to keep entrants within a reasonable distance from home. Congratulations to John Leslie (sailing single-handed) for pipping the Yellow Peril, BT2 (aka Blue Tango 2 in DHL colours)) by one minute on corrected time “assisted” by BT2 deciding to sail a slightly longer distance around an additional buoy that was not part of the course. Pay attention to your radio!!!!
Wednesday’s forecasts suggest a south easter in the mid-teens which should provide outstanding racing for the third round of the STBB Twilight series starting at 1800. Be there!
Saturday’s race (start 14:30) is for the more “mature” helms i.e. those “over 65” which probably includes quite a high proportion of our fleet. Less mature skippers will need to borrow a pensioner for the blunt end of their boat. A gentle south easter promises to be kind to the old toppies. See you on the water.
